ABIA:  Aba North Council Boss Denies Attacking Worker, As NULGE Calls For His Removal

Civil Servants attached to Aba North Local Council of Abia State have demanded for the immediate removal from office of the executive Chairman Prince David Ikonne for allegedly assaulting one of the female workers of the council, an allegation the Chairman denied.

 

They have also given the authorities a 48-hour ultimatum to take all necessary steps to prosecute the Chairman for allegedly inflicting bodily harm on the worker, the Head of Department of works Mrs Chidinma.

 

The workers spoke through the Abia State Chairman of the National Union Of Local Government Employees [NULGE] Comrade Ikechi Nwaigwe who also directed the workers to proceed on an indefinite strike action pending when their demands are met.

The workers decision followed the alleged assault on the HOD by the Chairman last Tuesday at the premises of the council. According to the NULGE State Chairman, the incident happened at the close of work.

 

The information reaching ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER is that on Tuesday the October 6 2021, the HOD was on her way out of the council Secretariat after thump printing the biometric machine suddenly the Chairman was seen reprimanding her and accusing her of sabotaging his effort in moving Local Government Area forward.

 

During the said period, the NULGE State Chairman accused Aba North Council Boss of assaulting the HOD works with plank after he had used cable wire and slapping her.

The NULGE Chairman queried why the Council Boss will lay hand on the worker when they are other ways he can use to address the allegation of sabotage which he accused her of.

 

As at the time of reporting all WORKERS have vacated their duty posts with all the offices under lock and key in accordance to the directives from the NULGE State Chairman. The Aba North workers were before then joined in solidarity with their counterparts from the 17 local councils who were represented by NULGE executives from all the councils.

However, the embattled Chairman Prince David Ikonne denied ever using woods and or any other object on the HOD , adding that he only confronted the woman on certain issues that have been slowing down development at the council.

 

“I never used any plank or any other object on the woman. But I confronted her over certain issues that have been slowing down development at the council. However I’m surprised at the kind of different headlines that have been given to the whole thing” Prince Ikonne stated.
