MANU: Why Young Players Are Not Great Players -Paul Scholes | READ DETAILS
Manchester United legend and co-owner of Salford City, Paul Scholes, has called out the team’s young players.
The historical player and coach took a swipe at Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga- growing talented players from his only and former team following the Premier League side’s 1-1 draw to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 clash.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga were in the team’s rank of players in the outing at Madrid. While 24-year-old forward, Marcus Rashford barely had a grasp of the game, his substitution, 19-year- old Elanga gave the team a point with a late equalizer.
Referencing the standings of the team, Scholes opined a lot more is expected of these players, adding they will be evaluated by trophy wins.
The 47-year-old said;
‘It is the biggest club in the world and it needs to be winning trophies
They spend a lot of money year in year out, but they haven’t produced.
We thought this year was going to be a little bit different with these young players. But these young players that everyone thinks are great players… they are not yet.
They aren’t great players until they have won something. We keep talking about the potential to win something, they haven’t done that yet and they still have to prove it.”
Scholes spent his entire professional playing career with Manchester United, for whom he scored over 150 goals in more than 700 appearances between 1993 and 2013.
