Rebel troops have arrested Burkina Faso President, Christian Kabore and detained him in the army barracks a day after staging an insurgence that has left the nation agitated.
The president was arrested today, Monday, the 24th of January following a rebellion by soldiers at several army bases across the country who demanded the sack of top flight military personnel and sufficient resources to fight the raging Jihadist insurgency in the state on Sunday, the 23rd of January, 2022.
According to witnesses, gunshots were heard near Kabore’s residence in the capital city, Ouagadougou. A helicopter was also spotted above the 64- year old’s house.
A security source revealed;
“President Kabore, the head of parliament and the ministers are effectively in the hands of the soldiers” at the Sangoule Lamizana barracks in the capital Ouagadougo”.
The disruption of mobile internet in the capital city created more tension as it became almost impossible to verify rumours of a coup in progress.
The politician who was elected in 2015 before being re-elected five years later has faced public rage over his failure to stop the mayhem after camapaign vows to prioritise the war against the jihadist insurgency.
