William Saliba signs new long-term deal to stay at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta says ‘still so much to come from him’

Arsenal have announced that key defender William Saliba has signed a new long-term contract at the club. The France international has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League since arriving in England. He has been in the PFA Team of the Year in the last three consecutive seasons and is hoping to help Arsenal end their wait for a Premier League trophy this term.

Defender William Saliba has penned a new long-term deal at Arsenal to extend his stay at Emirates Stadium.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has been a key part of a water-tight Arsenal back line in recent years, making 140 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Saliba arrived in north London in 2019, going out on loan to Ligue 1 sides Saint-Etienne, Nice, and Marseille before forming an imperious partnership with Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes.
Mikel Arteta said that Saliba is a popular member of the Arsenal dressing room after his new contract was announced.
“William is loved by all the players and staff, and that speaks volumes about his character, commitment and attitude every day,” said the Spaniard.
“Since joining us, William has grown so much, embraced responsibility, and has created a strong connection with our supporters and everyone at the club.
“We know there is still so much to come from him and will continue to work together to keep improving with the clear ambition of winning major trophies.”
Saliba made 51 appearances across all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring two goals as Arsenal impressed once again.
Gunners fans are eager to see their side win their first Premier League title since the 2003/04 season, and the France international has played a key role in a solid start to this season.
Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Liverpool, following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Newcastle United on the weekend.
Saliba has featured in five of Arsenal’s six Premier League fixtures so far this term.
His performances in recent years have seen him be selected in the PFA Team of the Year in the last three consecutive campaigns.
Saliba also has 28 international caps to his name with France despite competing in one of the richest player pools in world football.
