Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has taken a sharp jab at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, calling him a “frustrated politician” in response to Wike’s threats against governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The verbal altercation follows Wike’s warning that he would “set fire” to the states of PDP governors who had shown support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amidst the growing political tension.
Speaking in Bauchi on Tuesday while hosting members of the PDP National Working Committee, Mohammed downplayed Wike’s fiery remarks, attributing them to personal frustrations rather than genuine political intentions. “Wike is frustrated,” Mohammed remarked, noting that their disagreements are not personal, despite Wike’s aggressive stance. He reassured that Bauchi is resilient and not susceptible to Wike’s threats.
The conflict between Wike and Fubara has dragged in other PDP governors, igniting tensions within the party. Wike’s dissatisfaction stems from his belief that some governors are undermining his influence, particularly by rallying around Fubara. In retaliation, Wike has threatened to destabilize these states, accusing his peers of betrayal. The PDP Governors’ Forum, however, has condemned Wike’s threats, emphasizing unity and cooperation among party members.
Governor Mohammed’s retort came as a reminder of the need for party solidarity and focused leadership. While he acknowledged that political disagreements are inevitable, he stressed that such disputes should never lead to personal attacks or divisions within the party. Mohammed reiterated the importance of the PDP staying united to avoid collapse, reminding members of the party’s historic role in Nigeria’s development.
The escalating feud between Wike and Fubara, with the support of other PDP governors, has created an uneasy atmosphere within the party, but Mohammed remains confident in his leadership and the strength of Bauchi to withstand any potential unrest.
