Why I Deleted Tweet Condemning Mu-rder Of Deborah Samuel – Atiku Explains
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has claimed to have condemned the gruesome mur-der of Deborah Samuel in subsequent statement after the first statement he made was deleted.
Recall that Deborah Samuel, a 200 Level student at Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, was in May, 2022, m-urdered by Islamic extremists and set ablaze after she advised her classmates against posting religious materials on their WhatsApp group.
Atiku had made a post on his official social media handles condemning the attack but was swift to pull down the post minutes after some of his northern followers threatened not to vote for him in the upcoming 2023 election.
Speaking at The People’s Town Hall on Channels Television in Abuja on Sunday, December 11, said he ordered that the tweet be because he did not approve it before it was published.
In Atiku’s words;
“I asked the tweet to be deleted because I normally approve every tweet. So, since I didn’t approve it, I said, ‘delete it’. If you read my subsequent statements on that murder, I condemned it.
“There is nowhere it is said or it is an injunction in the Islamic faith that you can go and take somebody’s life, nowhere, it has to be through due process”.
