“Atiku Abubakar recently visited former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, following meetings with former military leaders IBB and Abdulsalami, sparking speculation about his 2027 presidential ambitions.”
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has paid a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari. Atiku’s visit took place at Buhari’s residence in Daura, Katsina State, on Saturday.
The visit, which included former Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Tambuwal in Atiku’s entourage, comes just three days after Atiku visited former military heads of state, Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) and Abdulsalami Abubakar, in their respective residences in Minna, Niger State.
Announcing the earlier visits in a post on X, Atiku had said, “Today, I paid Sallah homage to former Heads of State Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) and Gen. Abdulsalami at their residences in Minna, Niger State.”
These visits have heightened speculation that Atiku is laying the groundwork for a potential run in the 2027 presidential election. In May, Atiku vowed to continue contesting for the presidency as long as he remains healthy. This declaration comes amid efforts to form a coalition with Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and other political parties.
Atiku’s recent interactions with key figures in Nigerian politics suggest a strategic move to consolidate support and position himself for the upcoming election cycle.
