The APC has labeled former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi’s call for protests as hypocritical, unpatriotic, and dangerous. The party accuses Amaechi of inciting unrest and exploiting economic hardships for political gain.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, for calling on Nigerians to take to the streets, labeling his remarks as highly irresponsible and unpatriotic. According to APC Spokesman Felix Morka, Amaechi’s comments are hypocritical, given his history as a long-standing political figure who has benefited immensely from state resources.
In a strongly worded statement on Friday, Morka expressed shock that Amaechi, who has served as a two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor, and two-term Minister of Transport, would criticize Nigerian youth for not protesting the high cost of living. Morka accused Amaechi of trying to manipulate citizens’ frustrations for selfish political purposes.
“Speaking from the lavish comfort of his proverbial glass house, Amaechi’s call for protests is nothing short of hypocritical and provocative. He has been a political leech, feeding off state resources for decades, yet now attempts to portray himself as a champion of the people’s cause. It’s a dangerous incitement to violence,” Morka remarked.
The APC spokesman further noted that Amaechi and his political allies, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, are merely upset about not being in power and are attempting to destabilize the country by exploiting citizens’ economic discomfort.
Morka continued, “Amaechi’s outrageous comments serve only to stoke unrest and create anarchy on a national scale. Rather than offering constructive solutions, he’s weaponizing protest to further his selfish political objectives. This behavior is unpatriotic, and Nigerians should dismiss his call for chaos.”
The APC highlighted that the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians are the result of necessary reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration and that the hardships are temporary. Morka urged citizens to remain patient as the government’s transformative policies take effect, bringing long-term benefits.
“We encourage Nigerians to stand firm and reject these divisive calls to anarchy. Amaechi and his fellow naysayers did nothing to improve the country when they had power. Now, they only seem to find their voices in opposition, but Nigerians won’t be fooled,” Morka concluded.
