Video Of Borno Gov. Assassination Attempt By Boko Haram Was False

A video said to be from a recent attack on Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, by Boko Haram insurgents is currently making the rounds, but the Cable has reported that this is not true.

Rather, the video is said to be from an actual accident scene which occurred in Kenya some months ago.

A lot of Nigerians took to sharing the video yesterday evening, while claiming it is another attack on the governor.

Suspected Boko Haram had attacked Zulum’s convoy twice in less than 48 hours.

First, his convoy was attacked by the insurgents on Friday in which 30 persons were killed.

Barely 48 hours after, on Sunday, they ambushed his convoy again while he was departing Baga town in Kukawa local government area.

Hours later, a video purportedly showing when a convoy was being attacked emerged and started to make wave online

The convoy came under heavy gunshots with some of those in the area teargassed.

However,  after a background check was run on the clip, it was found out that the scene was from a violent rally that took place in Kenya in January.

The first red flag was the number plate of one of the cars captured which looked different from that of vehicles in Nigeria.

A google reverse image search was then ran on the thumbnail images from the video, which showed the clip was first published on January 18, 2020.

I t was reported that the incident played out when police officers in Mumias, Kakamega county in Kenya, confronted some politicians and their supporters during a planned rally.
