N96B Fraud: There Is No Justification To Stop Your Probe – Court Dashes Amaechi’s Hope | DETAILS
The Supreme Court has dashed the hope of Rotimi Amaechi, former Rivers state governor and a 2023 presidential aspirant on putting a stop to the probe of an alleged N96 billion fraud.
Amaechi who recently resigned as the Minister for Transportation to pursue his presidential ambition, approached the court to order a stop on the alleged N96billion sale of assets belonging to Rivers State when he was governor.
Governor Nyesom Wike had constituted a seven-man probe panel to probe Amaechi over the sale of assets, requesting the panel to look into the lawful or otherwise, sales of valuable assets of the state which include;
Omoku Gas Turbine, Afam Gas Turbine, Trans Amadi Gas Turbine, Eleme Gas Turbine, Olympia Hotel, and the award of contract for the execution of monorail project.
Giving judgement on Friday, May 27, Justice Adamu Jauro held that Amaechi’s plea for stop of probe lack merit and as such dismissed the suit.
The appellate court in a unanimous judgement by a five-man panel of justices, thereafter ordered him to face the probe panel investigating the matter.
Amaechi had approached a High Court in Rivers State and a Court of Appeal which denied his plea respectively.
