President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the stability or instability of Libya will directly affect Nigeria.
Buhari said this on Wednesday, May 26, when hosting the chairman, Presidential Council of Libya, Mohammed Younis Menfi.
The president who noted that the Republics of Chad and Niger have extensive borders with Libya, stressed that the happenings in Libya have implications for Nigeria as well as other countries in Lake Chad Basin.
Buhari also assured that Nigeria’s security tops in his priority list adding that “unless a country or institution is secured, there’s no way you can efficiently manage it.”
“Republics of Chad, and Niger, have extensive borders with Libya, and they are our immediate neighbours. Whatever affects them affects us. The stability or instability of Libya will directly affect us” Buhari said.
He appreciated Menfi for attending the Summit of Lake Chad Basin Commission held in Abuja on Tuesday.
In his remark, Menfi said that the Libyan government is expelling mercenaries and would conduct a democratic elections in due course.
He assured of a continued relationship between Nigeria and Libya.
“We aspire for joint cooperation, and reactivation of previous agreements,” he added.
