Youths from Abia North senatorial zone protested yesterday at the presence of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Iyorchia Ayu during the commissioning of Abia State Children Specialist Hospital built and equipped by the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in partnership with Abians in Diaspora.
The youths protested over the zoning arrangement of the PDP in Abia state and the rumoured anointing of a preferred candidate from Abia central.
Recall that PDP members from Abia North are insisting that governorship seat should return to the zone, but members of the party from the Umunneato axis in Abia central are equally laying claim to the seat.
Dr Ayu who was invited by the state government to commission two projects in Umuahia distanced himself and his national working committee from the endorsement of any candidate.
Instead, he advised Gov Okezie Ikpeazu to work with other stakeholders to come up with an acceptable candidate, warning that PDP will not want to lose Abia State.
Abia Youths vanguard which mobilized its members to the venue to protest the alleged self-succession agenda hailed Ayu for his principled position.
Chairman of the group, Comrade David Onwuneme also expressed appreciation to Ayu for his advise to the governor.
According to the youth, their voices were heard by the national Chairman who refused to endorse the rumoured anointed candidate.
