Reps Urges FG To Set Up Joint Security Operations To Allow Farmers Return To Their Farms

The Federal Government has been urged to set up a powerful Joint Security Operation to flush out bandits from their camps to allow farmers return to their farmlands.

This was part of the resolutions of the House of Representatives on a motion titled ” Need to Address Incessant Banditry Attacks on Villages in Dustin-Ma and Kurfi local government areas of Katsina State.

Leading the debate,  the sponsor of the motion member representing Dutsinma/Kurfi, Alhaji Aminu Balele, said the motion was timely in view of the incessant banditry activities in the two areas and the neighbouring Safana, Batsari Local Governments in addition to regular imposition of taxes on farmers before allowing them to access their farmlands.

The lawmaker described as unfortunate that as the nation was celebrating June 12, this year, seven communities within Kurfi and Dutsinma Local Government Areas of the state were attacked by bandits, resulting in the injury and death of scores of innocent villagers.

Alhaji Aminu Balele, expressed concern that the bandits attacks has puts his people at the risk of losing their livestock, having their shops burgled and resulting to low farming productivity, thereby aggravating the existing food insecurity in the affected communities.

He maintained that although the 9th Assembly passed several resolutions on similar motions and communicated to all security agencies, stringent security measures need to be taken in view of the little results achieved from the decisions.

The lawmaker similarly, advised the security agencies to partner local vigilantes to assist them in identifying to safeguard the lives and properties of the people as provided in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

Adopting the motion, the House resolved to setup an Ad-hoc Committee to meet the Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police, and the Director General of DSS to investigate the alleged complacency of Security Agencies towards addressing the cases in the State.
