More Secrets: PDP Chieftain Reveals Private Arrangement Of Ayu For Atiku To Win Wike
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jonah Jang on Wednesday, said Atiku Abubakar emerged as the presidential candidate of the party during the party’s primaries owing to some private arrangement made by Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the PDP, against Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state.
Jang, a former Plateau state governor who spoke after a meeting of some aggrieved members of PDP, rooting for the resignation of Ayu in Port Harcourt, said Ayu, whom he likened as a ‘referee’, helped Atiku to win the primaries at the expense of other aspirants, which according to him is contrary to what the PDP originally stands for.
The Chieftain accused Ayu of conniving with governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state to shortchange other presidential aspirants of the party.
In his words;
“For the National Chairman, Ayu, to go and embrace Aminu Tambuwal, calling him the hero of the convention which means there was a private arrangement that was done with Tambuwal to shortchange other contestants, including Governor Nyesom Wike.
“Here was a referee who now helped one of the sides to score a goal and then blew a whistle that a goal had been scored. This is not what we formed the PDP to do for Nigerians and therefore we unequivocally ask that Ayu has to step down.”
Recall that governor Tambuwal had surprisingly stepped down, asking his supporters to cast their votes for Atiku at the primary.
With Tambuwal’s support, Atiku was able to defeat Governor Wike and other aspirants to emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.
Jang also recalled Ayu’s visit to Tambuwal’s Abuja residence hours after the primary apparently to thank him for the gesture of stepping down for Atiku and said it proved there was a private arrangement between both men.
“Thank you, thank you. You are the hero of the convention,” Ayu was seen telling his host in a video clip that captured his arrival at Tabuwal’s residence.
