Abia State on Tuesday, August 27, 2025, marked its 34th anniversary with a mixture of reflection and celebration, as prominent leaders and citizens described the period as a “dawn of renewal” under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
Created in 1991 from parts of Imo State, with Aba, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Afikpo forming its foundation, Abia was born with high expectations of grassroots governance, progress, and development. But for decades, the state grappled with leadership challenges, decaying infrastructure, poor healthcare, and unpaid workers’ entitlements.
In a goodwill message to mark the state’s anniversary, business mogul and political leader, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex (MFR, OON), described the journey of Abia as one of resilience, survival, and now, renewal. He noted that despite past struggles, the emergence of Governor Otti has changed the narrative and repositioned Abia on the path of growth.
According to Bourdex, the administration has broken the cycle of stagnation that plagued Abia for years. “Roads long abandoned are now being reconstructed with speed and quality. Salaries and pensions are being paid regularly, restoring dignity to workers and retirees. Schools and hospitals are being revitalized, while transparency and accountability have become the hallmark of governance,” he stated.
He emphasized that Governor Otti has proven that leadership is not a slogan but “a sacred duty to serve,” adding that Abians can now celebrate their anniversary with pride, hope, and confidence in the future.
“Abia at 34 is not just about counting years, it is about celebrating a rebirth — the rebirth of a state that had endured neglect but is now witnessing true service and purposeful leadership,” Bourdex said.
He prayed that the new foundation of service, truth, and development will continue to shine and propel the state to greater heights.
The message resonated with many Abians who believe the Otti administration has restored credibility to governance in the state.
As Abia looks to the future, the 34th anniversary serves not just as a reminder of its past trials but as a celebration of a new era defined by courage, compassion, and conviction.
