Bobrisky Back To Jail: Reps probe bribery claims against EFCC, Correctional Service over case

The House of Representatives has ordered an investigation into allegations of bribery involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER gathered that, the probe is centred around the controversial case of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, a cross-dresser who was reportedly convicted of defacing the Nigerian Naira.

The decision came after the House adopted a motion of urgent national importance, raised by Rep Patrick Umoh, on Thursday, September 26.

Umoh highlighted the bribery allegations made by activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who claimed that the EFCC had received a ₦15 million bribe to drop money laundering charges against Bobrisky.

Further accusations also stated that Bobrisky did not serve his sentence within the Nigerian Correctional Service, as required, but instead stayed in a private apartment outside the service’s premises.

“These allegations raise serious concerns about the integrity of our law enforcement agencies,” Rep Umoh said.

He emphasised that the scandal, if proven, could harm Nigeria’s reputation, already plagued by perceptions of corruption.

The House directed its Committees on Anti-Corruption and Correctional Service to investigate the matter and submit their findings within three weeks.
