Five worshippers have died, and dozens were hospitalized following a feast at an Ibadan church. The cause of death remains under investigation as authorities examine the suspected food contamination.
In a devastating turn of events, a celebratory feast at a church in Ibadan, Oyo State, has led to the tragic deaths of five worshippers, with dozens more hospitalized. The incident, which occurred last Sunday, has left the community in shock, as authorities race to determine the cause of what many now describe as the “meal of death.”
According to reports, the feast was part of a traditional event aligned with the church’s doctrine. However, shortly after consuming the food, several worshippers began exhibiting signs of severe illness, prompting immediate medical attention. The affected individuals were rushed to the Infectious Disease Centre in the Olodo area of Ibadan.
Tragically, five people did not survive, succumbing to what is suspected to be food contamination. Around 50 other worshippers who also partook in the meal were admitted to the centre but have since been discharged after receiving treatment.
While the cause of death remains under investigation, the Oyo State Ministry of Health and other relevant stakeholders have been informed, and an official inquiry has been launched. Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso confirmed the ongoing investigation, stating that updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
This horrifying incident has raised concerns over food safety during public gatherings, as the community mourns the loss of five of its own.
