Unknown gunmen have attacked a security office at Central Body Neighbourhood Watch, Ogrute, Enugu-Ezike, in the Igbo–Eze North LGA of Enugu State.
All Facts News reports that the attack on the security outfit left two dead, with many sustaining injuries.
It was gathered that some patrol vehicles and the office were also set ablaze by the gunmen.
According to reports, the gunmen invaded the office in the wee hours of Tuesday killing one security personnel and a former Commander.
This is coming days after gunmen on Sunday attacked and burnt down the police and the Department of State Services offices in Nnewi, Anambra State.
According to witnesses, the attacked occured on Sunday afternoon around 1:00 p.m.
It was gathered that when hoodlums stormed the offices, they overpowered personnel and set fire to the facilities.
“The attackers said they don’t want to see any Nigerian flag standing in the area,” a witness told Peoples Gazette.
The number of those killed or injured cannot be ascertained as at the time of filing in this report.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has launched an exercise code-named ‘Golden Dawn’ in Anambra State targeted at flushing out criminal elements in the southeast state.
The exercise, which will be a joint operation with other security agencies was launched on Monday at Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area by the Commander 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Col. Abdulkarim Usman.
The exercise according to Army authorities will target members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB); the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Eastern Security Network (ESN), kidnappers, gunmen, and other criminal elements who have recently turned Anambra State into a troubled zone.
Naija News reports that the exercise will last from October 4 to December 23, 2021 and will also serve as a training exercise for troops of the Nigerian Army that will be involved in the exercise.
