Presently, the covid-19 pandemic experienced in the world has had rampant adverse effects within the human society. A greater percentage of the Nigerian populace has been confined within their homes and this is in a bid to curtail the motility of the virus. With the attendant stay-at-home order of government at various levels and the present reality of our socioeconomic outlook as a burgeoning economy, income streams of our people are inadvertently affected.
One could go on severally about the negative impact of the global covid-19 pandemic but a lot of actions around the world from determined individuals and groups are currently ongoing to mitigate and roundly eradicate the corona virus which has caused a lot of damage to the fabric of human society.
The Gregory University, Uturu, in holding up its mantra of Knowledge for Tomorrow right from the on-set of the pandemic had begun the production and the attendant distribution of globally prescribed, alcohol based hand sanitizers. These hand sanitizers are currently prevalent within the Uturu university community and different parts of Abia and Imo States.
The university through their biosciences and pharmaceutical setup has produced several natural curative drugs – Sniff Sniff, Adonis Yellow, etc – which are currently being analyzed by the nation’s food and drug regulatory body, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Following the conclusion of analysis, clinical trials of the drugs would ensue and would eventually be available in the mass market as another line of cure, protection and defence against the covid-19 pandemic.
In its avowed determination to always stand out as a technologically driven institution, there is a new invention by the Gregory University, Uturu, currently being deployed by the institution at its gates. It is the Gregory Human Sanitization Chamber. This sanitization chamber serves to offer an increased layer of defence from the covid-19 pandemic. Every individual expecting to access the grounds of the university would have to proceed via the chamber and for a number of seconds get decontaminated before being allowed entry into the hallowed environment of Gregory University.
Other technological advancements made by the university include a Fuel-less energy generating set which is currently in use in different parts of the university to provide electricity and a foot pedal energized hand washing and sanitizing equipment which further aids the personal cleansing of individuals upon entry within the university environment.
These advancements in protecting and propelling the living standards of people which are being powered by Gregory University, Uturu are undoubtedly being driven by the indefatigable spirit of the Founder and Chancellor of the University, Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe; a man given to incremental all-round development of humanity and a strong proponent of technological pursuits in ameliorating stagnating conditions.
