The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has issued a new directive to all officers in response to today’s protests organized by the “Take It Back Movement.” In a statement he personally signed, Egbetokun expressed serious concerns that the movement intends to incite chaos, targeting political institutions, citizens, markets, private and public properties, and critical infrastructure.
Egbetokun highlighted that despite efforts to obtain key information from the protest leaders—such as the venue, route, timing, and methods—the organizers have not complied. This information is deemed crucial for ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
The police chief has warned that any actions leading to mayhem or destruction will be met with firm responses. All police units across the nation are instructed to be on high alert and to safeguard lives and property from any form of attack or harassment. Officers are directed to take decisive action against arson, intimidation, and any threats to public safety. Any criminal activities resulting from the protest will lead to arrests and prosecutions.
