The Executive Governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has lauded the wonderful initiative of the Institute Of Chartered Accountant Of Nigeria (ICAN) in setting up an ICAN resource center in Abia state.
Dr Okezie Ikpeazu made his opinion known while commissioning the Chidi Ajaegbu ICAN resource center named after the Ex ICAN President Mr Chidi Ajaegbu who is from Abia State.
The Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu represented at the commissioning by the Deputy Governor of Abia State Rt.Hon Sir Ude Oko Chukwu called on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to partner with the State Government in adequate training of Abians and residents in the state to pass their examinations and qualify as professional Accountants.
Dr Okezie Ikpeazu while performing the Foundation laying ceremony of the Chidi Ajaegbu ICAN Resource Centre located at Mgbarakuma Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State posited that the centre apart from helping in increasing the number of professional accountants in the state will also update and upgrade the intellectual level of accountants in the management level of government.
He lauded the President of ICAN, Mazi Nnamdi Okwadigbo and the Governing Council for granting the award of the contract as well as the past President, Mr Chidi Ajaegbu for donating the Counterpart fund for the centre and urged them not to relent in assisting Government in areas of capacity building and further development of the state.
At the ceremony Dr Okezie Ikpeazu could not hide his happiness that members of ICAN were able to observe all the necessary protocols of Covid 19 in terms of social distancing, wearing of face masks and urged other organizations and the public to emulate them by assisting Govt at all levels win the fight against the dreaded Corona Virus pandemic.
The President of ICAN Mazi Nnamdi Okwadigbo represented by the District Chairman, Mrs Rosemary Amakwe while delivery the President speech through the District vice Chairman Sir Michael Ibe said the Resource Centre will enable members of the District Society to have a meeting place for cross fertilization of professional ideas and networking among others and thanked the Governor for donating the land to them as well as their past President Mr Chidi Ajaegbu for partnering with the Institute.
In the address, the President named some of the benefits of ICAN Resource Centre to include conduct of tutorials and various examinations of the Institute, provision of library facilities, hosting of District meetings and provision of venue for social events and thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his Deputy Sir Ude Oko Chukwu for their support and for allocating the land for the building of their Secretariat.
