According to Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner on Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, the new Electoral Act gives the PDP an option of conducting a fresh primary within 14-days of Ikonne’s demise.
He warned that Ikonne’ running-mate, Honourable Okey Igwe cannot automatically replace late Ikonne as the election has not commenced before his demise.
“He (the deputy governorship candidate) can only fly the flag if election has commenced. They have to hold a fresh primary within 14 days of the death and then they submit to INEC” Okoye said.
