A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday when an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service died while appearing before the House Committee on Public Account. The officer developed sudden health complications during the session.
The officer was presenting before the House Committee when he suddenly experienced severe health issues around 1:00 PM. Despite the immediate response from first aid personnel and medical staff at the National Assembly Clinic, the officer could not be revived and passed away.
Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, confirmed the officer’s death. However, he withheld the officer’s name to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
Mr. Rotimi stated, “During the engagement, which occurred around 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the official developed sudden health complications. Despite the immediate and diligent efforts of first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately passed away. Out of respect for the family, the official’s name will not be disclosed at this time.”
This incident underscores the unpredictable nature of health emergencies and the importance of having immediate medical response capabilities in public institutions. The House of Representatives and the Nigeria Customs Service are likely to review their health and safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
