The Equity & Justice Initiative (EJI) has revealed a plot by certain individuals and groups to tarnish the reputation of former Abia State Governor, Senator Theodore Orji. In a statement signed by the group’s Secretary, Dr. Abel Akudo, and made available to journalists on Sunday, October 19, 2024, the scheme involves using anti-graft agencies, specifically the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to discredit the former governor.
EJI raised the alarm in Umuahia, accusing “disgruntled elements” of repeatedly filing baseless petitions against Orji in an attempt to undermine his achievements both as governor and senator.
The group praised Senator Theodore Orji, popularly known as Ochendo, for his excellent performance during his tenure as governor, highlighting that his legacy includes numerous infrastructural developments and impactful empowerment programs for his constituents.
“These detractors, driven by jealousy and political motives, continue to launch unfounded attacks against Senator Orji and his family,” the statement read. EJI urged Abians to remain vigilant, warning that the smear campaign aimed at the senator and his rising profile would soon expose the true identities of those involved.
Despite efforts to undermine him, EJI affirmed that Senator Theodore Orji, remains ready to face any panel or legal proceedings to defend his record in office.
