AFNews recently reported of a conflict with Ugwuati community and proposed Enyimba Economic city promoters which led to the death of one person, one of the victim of the conflict Mr. David Akoma has finally opened up.
In an interview with AFNews in Umuahia, Akoma who is an Architect and liaison coordinator of Enyimba Economic City, hinted that as a follow up of his team earlier visit to Ugwuati community being one of the communities that their land fall into the proposed site for EEC, they were invited by the community yet again for a survey and demarcation.
According to him, he stated that when his team arrived Ugwuati community, they were taken into their hall just as they waited for the meeting and all of a sudden, he saw group of youths from the community on a motor bike arriving the place with machetes and empty bottles, shouting ”where are they, we will kill them today.”
He said immediately, he became afraid and tried to ask what was going on but no answer was given, such according to him, prompted him to try to escape when all of sudden, some of the boys attacked him machete him severally on his head as well as stabbed him with a bottle.
Mr. Akoma further said that he was able to escape from those irate youths who attacked him, adding that their operational vehicle which was donated to them by the government was damaged in the fracas.
He stressed that there are about 43 communities across the three LGA’s of Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West that their lands will be used for the proposed Enyimba Economic City, pointing out that the affected communities were duly informed about the project.
When asked by newsmen if someone is behind his ordeal, Akoma stated that he is sure that some group of persons must be behind but can not explain.
It will be recalled that Ogwuati community in Ukwa West L.G.A is home to the notorious Osisikankwu who once terrorize the people of Aba and it environs.
