Electric Wire Thief Faces Three Counts of Conspiracy, Breach of peace, and Stealing

A 19-year-old teenager, Yusuf Ayomide, who is accused of breaking and entering into a house and stealing electric wires worth N550,000, appeared in the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Monday.

The police charged Mr Ayomide, whose address was not given, with three counts of conspiracy, breach of peace, and theft.

The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, said that the suspect and his accomplices, who are still at large, carried out the crime on October 22 in the Ijegun area of Lagos.

He said that the suspect trespassed into the residence of one Ganiyu Sikiru without his permission and caused a disturbance by stealing his electric wires valued at N550,000.

He said that the suspect violated Sections 168(d), 287, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The suspect denied the charges.

The magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must be employed and show proof of tax payment to the Lagos State government.

She also said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the suspect.

Ms Ariyo adjourned the case until November 20 for further hearing.
