Easy Way To Resolve Your Case In Court Without A Lawyer – Abia AG Uwanna Reveals | WATCH VIDEO
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Abia State, Mr Ikechukwu Uwanna, has revealed an alternative dispute resolution system different from the High Court, Customary Court of Appeal, Magistrate Court, and Customary Court.
“I encourage our people to embrace the multi door court house. A lot of cases that we think are very serious, can be resolved through mediation. In mediation we don’t even need lawyers; mediation is party driven. We are quickly able to resolve a lot of cases without congesting the court system” Uwanna said.
Explaining the mediation process he said;
“A claimant or person who is aggrieved; whether is landlord, tenancy; contractual matters, matters relating to recovery of debts, etc, just walk into the door of the Abia state Multi-door House court and they will give you a form where you can succinctly state out what the issues are and on that note, the other party will be invited by the case manager or mediator and the case is reviewed and people are encouraged to see why they should resolve the matter amicably. A lot of cases that will go into the court system and crawl the system,e are resolved easily and you are not going to pay anything serious and its purely for civil matters.”
He added that the number of Judges also affects the system, however, he assured that efforts are being made to increase the number of judges and make their working environment conducive.
The Multi-door Court House is a court-connected Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre that offers a variety of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes to supplement litigation as the available resource for justice by the provision of enhanced, timely, cost effective and user friendly Access to Justice.
The Multi-Door refers to the various options; Mediation, Arbitration, Early Neutral Evaluation, and Hybrid Processes.
