With a renewed determination to ensure standard, land and property developers have been asked to abide by the laws guiding property development in the state. The Chairman, Delta State Taskforce on “Operation Show Your Building Plan,” Mr Chidi Nwuko made the call recently in Asaba during an enforcement exercise. He said that the call had become necessary in order to nip in the bud the recurrence of building collapse which he attributed to lack of approved building plan.
Mr Nwuko listed some of the standard procedures in land and property development to include obtaining approved building plan and permit, complying with approved building plan and documenting same with relevant authorities prior to development. He stated that such compliance would help eliminate building or construction collapses capable of causing wanton damage and in extreme cases loss of lives.
The taskforce chairman enjoined land and property developers embarking on any form of development to as a matter of responsibility adhere to standard procedures. While commending property developers who follow due process, he frowned at those who flagrantly disregard them, warning that the long arm of the law would catch up with them soon.
Mr Nwuko also disclosed that over 15 business premises in Asaba have been sealed-up recently for failure to tender their approved building plans within the stipulated time line or for not having one at all.
