Hon. Darlington Nwokocha Withdraws Ikpeazu’s Name From Mini Stadium | WATCH VIDEO
The incumbent member representing Isiala Ngwa North/ South federal constituency and member-elect for Abia Central Senatorial district, Honourable Darlington Nwokocha, has deleted the name of Abia state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu from a mini stadium he had built and named after Ikpeazu.
Nwokocha in a viral video said Ikpeazu failed to live up to the expectations of leaving landmark projects for the people and also providing dividends of democracy for 8 years of him being in power, and as such does not qualify to receive such honour.
According to Nwokocha, the mini stadium is the only project in Abia State which is named after Governor Okezie Ikpeazu
“We named it after Dr Okezie Ikpeazu with the hope that he was going to try his best to meet the qualities expected… we thought that he would have been encouraged by this project to bringing the dividends of democracy to our people; we thought that there would be landmark achievements that his name will be recorded and marked in every nooks and crannies of this state.
“I have seen that this is the only place that his name is inscribed; there is no other place you will see the name of Okezie Ikpeazu being inscribed on any project.
“I want to withdraw the name, Okezie Ikpeazu attached to this stadium based on the fact that he didn’t meet the standard that should have qualified him into deriving such status.
“This stadium is no more known as Dr Okezie Ikpeazu mini stadium” Nwokocha stated.
He noted that the mini stadium will be formally renamed in the next few weeks.
Recall that Nwokocha built the mini stadium in his hometown, Umungalagu, Eziama Nvosi, and named it after Ikpeazu.
Ikpeazu was invited to commision the stadium on July 18, 2021 during the 53rd birthday celebration of Nwokocha.
Hon. Nwokocha was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) until April 2022 when he defected to Labour Party to contest for the Senatorial election of Abia Central Senatorial District which he won on the platform of the Labour Party on the 25th of February.
