One Mr Emenike Onyimadu said his wife arrested him in his house claiming that he snatched and sold their 11- months -old son.
Emenike who appeared before the Abia State Panel of Inquiry , today as complainant in a case of police brutality between he(Emenike), Commissioner for Police Abia State and DPO divisional police station Omoba.
The complainant who was cross examined by the respondent’s counsel, Stanley Ofoegbu, said he had issues with his wife because she always quarrel with his family members.
According to Emenike, his wife left the house to get parents house with his 11- months -old son without his consent.
He said; ” after a while, my wife returned my son to me and left.
” I couldn’t take care of an 11-months-old child, so I took him to my sister’s house at Osisioma.
“The following night , around 9:30 pm, after I had finished eating dinner, I saw someone jump into my compound through the fence, I rushed into my house because I had only wrapper on me .
” I was only able to wear my boser before one of the men barged into my room, I ran from the back door where another caught me.
” It was then I noticed they were policemen. They started beating me and gave me fatal injury.
” They took me to the police station. I was kept there from around 10pm to 6pm the next day.
” The police, myself and wife went to Osisioma where I kept the baby, they saw him alive.
“The police gave back the baby to my wife and I went back to the station. The following day, my uncle bailed me” Emenike narrated.
Responding to if he has been sending money to his wife for the baby, he said; ” no I have not. That is because, the police made my wife sign an undertaking that she would not at any point, return the baby back to me”.
The matter was adjourned till March 23, for further cross examination.
