The attention of the governing authorities of Abia State University has been drawn to an unsubstantiated online report on social media, alleging the exploitation of Students by some lecturers of the university in form of selling of books, handouts, or compelling them to pay money to pass tests or present assignments.
This is untrue as the university has abolished all forms of selling of handouts by lecturers, while the book review committee of the university oversees all publications, and sales to Students only made through the university bookshop.
However the university management, under the able leadership of the student’ friendly and staff welfare-oriented vice Chancellor, distinguished Professor O. M Ogbulu, promises not to sweep this allegation under the carpet, as a thorough investigation will be carried out, and anyone found culpable, will be made to face the full wrath of the law, as stipulated in the university regulation.
The administration of the vice Chancellor, distinguished Professor Ogbulu, restates its zero tolerance to any form of exploitation by any staff of the university and will continue to pursue vigorously measures put in place to completely eradicate any such related activities.
It will be recalled that just recently, the vice Chancellor approved the reduction of the amount paid for certificate verification from 30,000naira to 10,000naira and made printing of admission letters and post Utme results free, all in a bid to ease the financial burden of parents and students.
Therefore, the university urges parents or students with substantive evidence of any exploitation by any staff of the university to report such as prompt and appropriate actions will be taken to punish anyone found culpable.
Please, all concerned should be properly guided.
