Students of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU), Umuahia in Abia State, on Monday, October 4 shut down the Ikwuano Umuahia Ikot Ekpene Federal road, protesting the incessant death of students owing to bad road condition.

A final year student of the institution, Chidinma Queen Ogbonna, had on Sunday, October 3, 2021, lost her life after she was hit by a trailer load of rods.


ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER gathered that another student was also involved in a road accident on same day. However, the student is admitted at the school’s clinic.

The protesting students had placards with various inscriptions, blocked the road, restricting easy flow of traffic along that axis which is also a route to Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking to newsmen, the SUG President, MOUAU, Comrade Chukwuma Ogochukwu, expressed sadness over the road which has become a death trap for not just students but others. He called on the Federal and State government to carry out an immediate reconstruction of the road.
The death of Ogbonna is coming few months after another student who had finished her final year examinations, was crushed on the same road.
ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER had reported that the member representing Ikwuano /Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Sam Onuigbo, in a release, noted that he has not failed in fighting for the continuation of the reconstruction work on the same road which he had earlier attracted but was abandoned for years.
He had in that release expressed hope that the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), would come back to the road during the dry season.
