Ogbuneke emerged the 2023 governorship flag bearer of the SDP at the party’s primary held over the weekend.
Featuring on ‘Focal Point’ an AF-TELEVISION programme on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, the governorship hopeful promised to transform Abia state within 24 months to make it the next London if elected.
“if Abians would give me the chance, my promise to them is that 24months into my government, Abia state will be the next London so that many people will leave where ever they are to come back to Abia state”.
Mrs Ogbuneke maintained that she is the one to beat in the race adding that ‘this is no time to vote any man. Enough is enough. Males have already done enough in Abia state. I need that broom to go and redirect Abia state to the right position. Irrespective of my gender, I have the qualities. The men have done their best, but it’s not enough.”
The SDP guber candidate noted that though the men have been in the game for a while, they have performed poorly in Abia and she is the right candidate to lift the social burdens of Abians.
She acknowledged that she has respect for men, however ‘it is time for Abians to realize that time has gone when gender should be considered for elective positions rather individuals with vision should be given mandate to govern the state.
She charged Abians to look at the track records of all governorship candidates before giving their mandate come 2023 adding that “It is no longer business as usual; it is no longer voting the way it used to be”.
“All those who have governed Abia state have done their best, but am saying that their best is not good enough, Abia state deserves a lot more”.
Ogbuneke regretted that Abia has been backward and has remained the same without a change for decades compared to Ebonyi state.
“the Abia state that I knew and Umuahia as a capital, there is no change. It has been the same way.
“I have come to help and righting the wrong, to clean out the system, to make things good so that there are good roads, proper infrastructures, children going to school”.
Other offers she made include;
Running water, good health care, electricity, tourism, implemented agriculture, good roads without considering if they are federal or state roads, empowerment, employment, and other social welfare packages.
She expressed confidence that judging with her track records and her individual contributions in the society, Abia state would benefit more if she is given a better platform to serve.
The governorship candidate decried the current nature of Aba, the commercial hub of the state, saying that “Aba is a very dirty city if not the dirtiest in Nigeria. She noted that the leaders travel out to European countries to enjoy the achievement of others while they offer nothing at home for the people. She described herself of the Deborah of Abia, who has come out to change the story of the state adding that ‘a woman coming out to take position in Abia state should not be something new.
“Only because the men have taken up a lot of positions and put the women aside to seem like they are doing something when they are not doing anything.
Abia state is the most backward state in Nigeria and I don’t like it”.
Mrs Johnson Ogbuneke assured that she is not in the race to make money for herself but to fulfill the dreams of Abians who she is passionate about.
Rating governance in the state, she said;
“Abia state has done very poorly in all the ticking points; Abia has scored zero.
“I want my state of origin to do well; Abia state should not be the last. I have come in other to help Abia state to reposition in governance so that it would go back to the people” she added.
