“but in this particular case, the governor just came up and made a unilateral statement that the next governor will come out from Umunneato, Abia Central axis” Megwara said.
According to Megwara, even though Ikpeazu is yet to make his intention public, his body language suggests that he has a preferred candidate for the 2023 governorship position which is not in line with the past agreement.
There has been speculations that the governor has anointed Prof Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, former VC, Abia State University (ABSU).
Explaining the mismanagement; Megwara said the consensus that brought in governor Ikpeazu in 2015 was an agreement by elders of the party.
He regretted that the better Abia that was envisaged have not been delivered by Ikpezu’s administration.
“the enthusiasm with which we started, that we will be compared alongside Ebonyi state today; Abia is nowhere close to the achievements of Dave Umahi”.
The chieftain said Abia needs someone “who will do better than Okezie Ikpeazu” and will address the screaming challenges that the governor will not be able to achieve in the next 365 days”.
He noted that his concern for the next governor is scorecard, what he has been able to do in the past, adding that
“the days of imposing a candidate on the people of Abia state ought to be over because we don’t want that ‘man’ to come on board and give us any excuses. If you are imposed upon the people, there is every likelihood that the person who imposed you upon us will have a leverage over you”.
“we don’t implement the 40% in the budget; three thousand and one roads that have been approved, and we don’t see anything about it.
“The governor will leave office after 8 years without a government house and that’s not acceptable to Abians.
He lamented the refuse issue facing the state” why can’t we once for all tackle the refuse disposal problem in Abia state?
Megwara maintained that the Abia PDP, will face serious challenges if they fail to field a very popular candidate.
