The Abia State All Progressive Congress (APC) has alleged that Abia State Government led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is playing politics with the COVID-19 or Coronavirus pandemic.
In a Press Release made available to AFNews and signed Abia APC Publicity Secretary Comrade Benedict Godson, he advised Abia residents to abide by all the guidelines set by the state government to protect themselves and likewise accused the government of playing politics with the COVID-19.
He wondered why the state government have refused to show Abians inside of the Isolation centers in ABSUTH and the one at Abia North, he likewise queried why the state governor refused to appreciate Dr. Alex Otti OFR who was the first to donated PPE and COVID-19 kits to the state.

PRESS RELEASE
Covid-19Covid-19 too serious, too deadly for us to play politics with it
The All Progressives Congress, Abia State Chapter urge all Abians to as a matter of life and death, obey all the medical advise from experts and precautionary measures introduced by the state government to enable us have a state to call our own after this terrible situation must have ended.
However, we must state it clearly that the government of the day should try and be more open and not claim that everything is in place while in the real sense, nobody in this government can boldly snap or show us a video of the much talked about readiness.
Abia was the first state in the South East that told everyone that they’ve mapped out three Isolation Centres to manage any Covid-19 patient in the state, but unlike this government, they’ve not done their usual picture or short comical video to show us the centres and the equipment there in.
We’re beginning to read that the Amachara Specialist Hospital and Abia State University Teaching Hospital which they said are one among their Isolation Centres, have absolutely nothing to show as claimed.
Since the past one or two weeks they claimed they’ve gotten three Isolation Centres and awaiting the fourth in Abia North, the Governor is yet to even state the location of the fourth or take medical personnel, Television, Radio and Newspaper journalists to snap and show people the other ready Centres.
Must we play politics with something as deadly as Covid-19? How can someone claim that ABSUTH is an Isolation Centres while the road leading to that hospital has already isolated the hospital from the rest of the State. Can the Governor boldly take journalists in his convoy and go to ABSUTH this rainy season to face the shame their?
Even Federal Government is soliciting for help and a state government like ours is claiming that all is in place while the people are at home with no food to eat. Nobody in Abia can boast of receiving any meaningful help be it Sanitizer, face mask of food items from this government.
We listened to the Governor’s broadcast on Wednesday and it was good he appreciated the efforts of some individuals that donated something to the people of the state, but he practically showed his political bitterness when he failed to recognize the efforts of Dr. Alex Otti who was the first to donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This is time to unite and fight a common enemy in Coronavirus not political time.
We urge Ikpeazu to as a matter of urgency call all well meaning Abians wherever they are and tell the to help save our people by making serious moves to get a true Isolation centre ready for our people because, even him knows that his much talked about three Isolation Centres are fallacies.
We also wish to use this medium to call on all political office holders who are members of the APC to please help their constituents in this time of need as many families now find it hard to eat even once in a day.
As a party, we appreciate all those political office holders and other none office holders who have shown our people love by donating one thing or the other. We wish to say that both man and God are taking records of what’s happening today and no kindness no matter how small, will go unrewarded.
Signed
Comrade Benedict Godson
Publicity Secretary, Abia State
