High Chief Raymond Onyinyechi Ofoegbu (Onyinye Ohuhu), a Deputy Superintendent of Immigration and the founder, Onyinye Ohuhu Foundation, has reiterated his desire to represent his constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.
Ofoegbu a native of Umuebiziem Umuda Ofeme in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia state, on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, restated his commitment to further develop his community and the state at large while featuring on ‘Focal Point’ an AFTELEVISON programme.
The Philanthropist who recently received the ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER (AFNEWS) Icon of the year award, with strong conviction owing to his constituents clamouring for his representation, said he will occupy the position come 2023.
“I don’t want to run for an office, I am going to the House of assembly to represent my people. The Umuahia North state constituency which Ohuhu occupy in the state house of assembly”
Onyinye Ohuhu has diverse empowerment programmes for the youths, widows, students, orphans and less privileged in the society.
Explaining his conviction, Ofoegbu said;
“I am from Umuhu axis of ohuhu. I am going to occupy the position after Honourable Kelechi Onuzuruike. By the virtue of a gentleman’s agreement between the Ohuhu people- it says Umuhu and Okaiga; Kelechi is from Okaiga and by justification, by equity, by that gentleman’s agreement, Okaiga has taken their turn its now the humble people of Umuhu and by the grace of God, Onyinye Ohuhu has come to stay. My people have asked me to do it and I know I can because I don’t think it takes much to liberate a group of persons.
Umuhu has its geographical map so asking for such a position is not a bad idea. I have stepped in to occupy that position by the grace of God; I know my people are solidly behind me, they are clamouring Onyinye Ohuhu; they want a betterment.”
Ofoegbu noted that since 1999 all who have represented them in the state Assembly have done well. However, the people need ‘a little additional’ which is why they are clamouring for him.
Explaining the Umuhu and Okaiga arrangement wherein there are postulations that if power rotates back to Umuhu, it should go to Isingwu community, he said;

“The Isingwu’s are our brothers from Ofeme regardless of how anybody feel-, what unites us is bigger than what divides us. The House of Assembly position cannot divide brothers.
The Isingwu is from Ofeme, the Umuda is from Ofeme where I come from. If you go there, you’ll see Umuda Isingwu. This is migration issue. We don’t have any sharing formula in Umuhu. We don’t have any division in Umuhu, We are one people. whenever we have this kind of opportunity, we iron it out in Umuhu.
Every individual from Umuhu is allowed to contest regardless of your zone, village or community. At the end of the day, we are one, we are not divided.”
On what the people should expect from him if he is elected in the 2023 election, Onyinye Ohuhu said the people should expect a ‘new Michael Okpara’ in him.
“ I am charged to step into his shoes. I am motivated to continue all his abandoned projects. One of the projects that would have made Abia one of the richest states in Nigeria is Ulonna farm settlement, where he invested in cocoa, rubber, and palm trees. I will push bills, motions, seek for counterpart funding , invest my own fund to make all these projects come to live”
He added that he has a target of reviving the Ohuhu ring road and water scheme using his salaries from the House and also use his NGO to source for funds.
He called on the stakeholders to ensure that there is real democracy and a stop to malpractices even as the election year approaches, adding that; “we need a high level of integrity, sincerity and commitment to any project”.
He also charged the youths to believe in themselves and not let their backgrounds or environment limit them in pursuing bigger dreams.
