Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has extolled the virtues of Wife of Abia State Governor, Dr Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu for the leadership she has provided Abia women who he described as the bedrock of the State.

The Speaker stated this today while celebrating women on the occasion of International Women’s Day saying Abia women and women all over the world deserve to be equal partners in the search for a peaceful, progressive and prosperous society.

“The days of relegating women to the background are long gone. Any society that wants to make meaningful progress must ensure that its women are not relegated to the background but given the necessary opportunities to thrive as they have nothing else to prove considering their sacrifice, commitment and dedication to a peaceful and safe society especially in the global fight against the Coronavirus pandemic”, he observed.

Continuing, the Speaker said, “Thankfully in Abia, we have the Wife of the Governor who has proven with her humanitarian works what women can bring to leadership when given the opportunity”.

Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji commended the United Nations for choosing the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day which is ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world’, describing it as “apt and a means of calling the world’s attention to the critical roles women play in keeping our world safe”.

He pledged that “the Abia State House of Assembly will continue to pass laws that promote the sociopolitical and economic advancement of Abia women so that the State can continue to tap from their leadership prowess”.
