Kabiru Dodo, an aide to Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has cleared the air on controversies surrounding the alleged relocation of the President’s wife to Dubai.
Sahara Reporter had claimed in a report about a week ago that Aisha left Nigeria for Dubai over insecurity in Aso Rock.
However, Mrs Buhari’s aide while speaking at a function in Jalingo, the capital city of Taraba State over the weekend denied the reports, noting that the president’s wife only travelled out of the country on medical ground.
Dodo who described as mere rumours the reports making the rounds that the first lady relocated for fear of security in the country, noted that Mrs Buhari travelled to the Arab city for medical checkup.
“The First Lady travelled for her medical trip. She did not flee the country because of insecurity, she left her children, her husband and family in Nigeria, what people are saying is baseless and worth nothing to be considered. I want to tell the whole world that I do speak to her on daily basis and she is ready to return to the country as soon as she is done with the medical treatment abroad,” Dodo noted.
Meanwhile, a top Presidency source, on Sunday, disclosed that the harsh economic situation in Nigeria caused by the outbreak of Coronavirus and the negative impact of the border closure on the private sector made President Muhammadu Buhari order the re-opening of land borders.
AFNews reports that the source which spoke with Vanguard on the condition of anonymity noted that the President directed the opening of the four borders having realised that the closure affected an ordinary Nigerian.
