Mr. Chukwualuka Innocent Okenna who is based in South Africa has been reported dead as a result of beating and torture he received from Officers of the South African Police Force.
According to an eye witness Account who spoke to AFNEWS on circumstances leading to the death of the deceased. Said ” On Friday 3rd of October 2020 that some police men led by a police officer popularly known as small went to number 20 Jellicoe street Witbank Mpumalanga where they arrested Mr. Chukwualuka Innocent”
” After the arrest, he was mercilessly beaten up by the police officers and whisk away to Witbank police station where he was detained till Monday 5th October 2020. On Monday late Chukwualuka Innocent was arraign before a court where he was granted bail.”
After his release as a result of the court directive ” Late Chukwualuka on coming back told friends that he was having serious pains in the body especially on the head as a result of the beaten and torture he received”
That was the last that was heard of late Chukwualuka Because ” On Wednesday morning at about 11am , the caretaker of the house went to see how he was fairing only to discover that the door to his house was still locked.something he considered unusual, He knocked several times but nobody responded which made him to force the door open only for him to see the lifeless body of Chukwualuka lying on the floor. ”
Though the reason for the arrest of Late Chukwualuka Innocent Okenna by the South African Police is yet to be ascertain as at the time of filling this report but he is a Nigerian, a native of Okpuno in Awka Local government area of Anambra State ”
His death has indeed added to the number of Nigerians in South Africa who are victims of extra judicial killing in the hands of south Africans , but obviously according to the eye witness, he did not deserve the toture and beaten he received which resulted to his death .
After his lifeless body was discovered, ” The police were later called by Nigerians living in South Africa and they came and mark the crime scene while the forensic and pathology unit took the corpse to an unknown location”
