The Minority Whip/Member representing Arochukwu State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha and his counterpart in Aba South State Constituency, Hon. Martins Ichita have received their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following their victory in the last Saturday election in the two State Constituencies of Arochukwu and Aba South.
Speaking after receiving his certificate, Hon. Mike Ukoha thanked INEC for conducting a free, fair and credible election, stressing that with what they have done, it has further given hope to the common man that election in Nigeria can be conducted to reflect the wishes of the masses.
The Minority Whip specifically thanked the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Abia State Dr. J.V.C Iloh for ensuring a hitch free election in the two Constituencies, and urged him and INEC staff never to relent in their assignment.
He thanked the people of his constituency for electing him, despite all odds, and promised to attract dividends of democracy to his constituency for the betterment of all.
On his part, Hon. Martins Ichita thanked the people of Aba South State Constituency for re-electing him, noting that with what they have done, it has demonstrated their unwavering support for him, adding that he will always pursue goals and aspirations that will be in the interest of the people of Aba South and pledged his commitment to the development of the area.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. J.V.C Iloh explained that the rerun election was pursuant to the orders of the court of Appeal, Owerri that such exercise be conducted in definite polling units and wards for Arochukwu and Aba South State Constituency seats of the Abia State House of Assembly.
He noted that the general elections have come and gone, expressing delight that Abia State is one of the States where the Commission is proud to proclaim that elections went on smoothly, saying that such was the reason the court faulted the Commission in two cases out of about thirty two matters which were filed at the election petition tribunal.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner reiterated the Commissions resolve in conducting free, fair and credible election in Nigeria and call on everyone to support them.
