The Special Adviser to the Governor of Abia State on Political Matters, Honorable Acho Obioma, has called on political actors across the state to remain calm and exercise restraint, as political activities gradually begin to gain momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the evolving political atmosphere, Obioma noted that there has been a noticeable rise in political engagements, urging stakeholders to approach the process with a sense of responsibility and commitment to peace.
Obioma emphasized that, with elections still some time away, the priority for leaders and stakeholders should be on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Abia State.
According to him, this is a period that calls for governance, service delivery, and strengthening of public trust rather than actions that may create unnecessary tension.
He further described Abia as one of the most peaceful states in the South-East and Nigeria at large, noting that the relative calm being enjoyed across the state should be preserved.
“If you look around, you will observe that incidents such as kidnapping and other security challenges are minimal. This is something we must all work together to sustain,” he said.
Obioma urged political stakeholders to ensure their actions promote stability and security in the state, while also calling on all to support the commendable work being carried out by Governor Alex Otti in Abia State.
He stated that Governor Alex Chioma Otti remains committed to democratic principles and will continue to uphold fairness in the electoral system.
“The focus should be on engaging the people, presenting ideas, and building trust. Ultimately, it is the people who will decide,” he added.
Obioma advised political aspirants and parties to focus on communicating their vision and achievements to the electorate rather than engaging in actions that may heighten tensions.
He stressed the importance of constructive engagement, noting that elections should provide an opportunity for healthy competition of ideas and policies.
While reiterating the administration’s preference for peace, Obioma assured that the government remains committed to maintaining law and order across the state.
He explained that the role of his office includes fostering political harmony and encouraging tolerance among stakeholders, which are essential for sustainable development.
As Abia State continues on its development trajectory, Obioma called on all political actors, stakeholders, and citizens to contribute to a peaceful and stable environment that will support growth before, during, and after the 2027 elections.
