Man United signing to officially arrive at club on July 1, five-year contract till 2030 signed
Man United’s transfer window might have already got off to a good start with Matheus Cunha, but it’s set to receive another boost as well.
The club is locked in talks for Bryan Mbeumo with Brentford, and while there is optimism around that deal, it doesn’t look like it will progress quickly.
In the meantime, Enzo Kana-Biyik has been secured as a low-cost flyer, but another Man Utd signing will officially arrive at the club on July 1.
The player has already been signed on a five-year contract, but he was with his parent club all this time. Now he’s gearing up to make an impact at Old Trafford.
Diego Leon’s Man Utd arrival set
Diego Leon was signed by Manchester United in the winter transfer window from Cerro Porteno in Paraguay, where he emerged as one of world football’s most exciting youngsters.
Ineos went above and beyond to sign Leon, which was a huge marker of the club’s trust in his abilities.
Diego Leon impressed for Cerro Porteno at just 17, and he will have a chance to gatecrash Ruben Amorim’s plans for next season with a strong pre-season.
It was earlier reported that Leon will arrive in the second week of June, but after delays, V Sports Team, a Paraguayan outlet, reports that he’ll officially arrive on July 1.
That’s when the new season starts on paper and accounts reset, so it makes sense for Leon to arrive when the page on the 2024/25 season is turned over completely.
Leon can make instant impact at Man Utd
While it is a tall order for a teenager joining from Paraguay to make an instant impact at Man Utd, Leon is no ordinary wonderkid.
His pedigree includes playing for Cerro Porteno in the South American version of the Champions League, Copa Libertadores, and he has plenty of experience with Paraguay’s youth teams as well.
Leon has been compared to Marcelo for his fearless and physical play from the wing-back position, which is the ideal profile of a player for Ruben Amorim’s system.
Patrick Dorgu was signed in January as the first-team option, but he’s quite raw as well, and combined with Harry Amass’ breakout, Amorim might have a good collection of options at a position that requires a player to always be at 100%.
A lot will depend on the pre-season because if Amorim wants a small squad, it could be a straight shootout between Amass and Leon for the spot behind Dorgu.
The Paraguayan dynamo can’t be counted out of that fight, and he’ll be itching to make an impact after waiting almost six months to join.
