Arsenal plan Viktor Gyokeres signing after Martin Zubimendi transfer from Real Sociedad – Paper Round
Arsenal are set to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and could follow that up with the purchase of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, while Jeremie Frimpong is set to join Liverpool as Darwin Nunez is linked with Atletico Madrid. Elsewhere, Southampton are in talks to appoint Will Still as their new manager, and Marcus Rashford hopes to sign for Barcelona.
Arsenal prioritise Gyokeres
The Sun believes that Arsenal will land Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer.
In addition to the Spaniard, they want a striker, and Viktor Gyokeres looks like the favourite to make the move to London.
The paper writes: “Arsenal look set for a busy summer as they are ready to land Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi for a whopping £50 million.
“The North Londoners are also looking for an elite striker, with many claiming that is the last piece of the jigsaw required to finally win their first Premier League title since 2004.
“Arteta’s side are very keen on Newcastle superstar Alexander Isak but he will prove a very tough man to sign.
“Therefore, Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the likes of Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
“Gyokeres seems the likeliest candidate to move to the Emirates this summer.”
Frimpong set to join Liverpool
Jeremie Frimpong is poised to join Liverpool in the coming days after he arrived in England for a medical.
The Bayer Leverkusen player will cost around £30 million, while Darwin Nunez could be on his way to Atletico Madrid.
The Mirror reports: “Jeremie Frimpong is set to sign a five-year deal with Liverpool after the full-back jetted in on Sunday ahead of a medical.
“The Netherlands international will become the Premier League champions’ first summer signing after they agreed a £30m deal with Bayer Leverkusen.
“Frimpong, 24, was identified as the club’s top target once they learnt that Trent Alexander-Arnold would depart at the end of his contract in June. And Frimpong will undergo his medical on Monday having already agreed personal terms.
“Liverpool only signed Federico Chiesa last summer before winning the title at a canter. But they are expected to have a much busier window this year with a new centre-forward also high up their priority list. Darwin Nunez, whose admirers include Atletico Madrid, is expected to depart.”
Still linked with Southampton vacancy
Will Still is expected to return to England after deciding to leave Ligue 1 side RC Lens.
The Mail suggests that he is already in talks about a new job, with Southampton looking to land the former Reims man.
The paper states: “Will Still is in talks to become the next manager of a Premier League club.
“And it appears that the young coach is close to securing the switch in environment he desires, as he is in talks to become Southampton’s next manager.
“The Championship-bound Saints are believed to be confident in getting a deal over the line.
“Russell Martin oversaw Southampton’s nightmare start to the season before he was promptly swapped for Ivan Juric in hopes of turning their fortunes around.”
Rashford willing to take pay cut
Marcus Rashford would be willing to take a pay cut on his current £315,000-a-week wages in order to secure a move away from Manchester United.
However, that is not necessarily good news for Aston Villa, where he is on loan, because reports in Spain suggest he would do so in order to link up with Barcelona.
The Express reports: “Villa have the option to land Rashford permanently at the end of his loan spell, but are yet to begin negotiations. Several other clubs in Europe have also been linked with the 27-year-old, who remains tied down to The Red Devils until 2028. Any move will largely come down to finances with United thought to be demanding £40 million in exchange for his signature.
“Rashford’s wage demands could also prove to be a sticking point, given that he is currently earning around £315,000 per week.
“His preferred destination would be Barcelona and he is prepared to slash his salary demands in order to join the Catalan giants, according to Sport. It is said that Rashford would be willing to make significant sacrifices to ensure the move goes ahead.”
