President Tinubu Confers National Honours on Pro-Democracy Heroes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on several distinguished Nigerians both living and deceased in recognition of their significant contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey.

All Facts News reports that the honours were bestowed during President Tinubu’s address at the National Assembly.

Posthumous National Honours

The following individuals were honoured posthumously:

Special Recognition

President Tinubu also conferred the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) on Uncle Sam Amuka Pemu, a veteran journalist and publisher, in celebration of his upcoming 90th birthday on June 13.

Posthumous Honours for the Ogoni Nine

The President extended posthumous national honours to the late Ken Saro-Wiwa (CON) and his fellow Ogoni Nine members, as follows:

  • Saturday Dobee (OON)

  • Nordu Eawo (OON)

  • Daniel Gbooko (OON)

  • Paul Levera (OON)

  • Felix Nuate (OON)

  • Baribor Bera (OON)

  • Barinem Kiobel (OON)

  • John Kpuine (OON)

He also announced a full presidential pardon for the Ogoni Nine and others to be named in consultation with the National Council of State.

National Assembly Leadership Honoured

President Tinubu formally decorated the following Presiding Officers of the National Assembly with national honours previously conferred:

  • Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON – Senate President

  • Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON – Speaker of the House of Representatives

  • Senator Jibrin Ibrahim Barau, CFR – Deputy Senate President

  • Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, CFR – Deputy Speaker
