In a bold and strategic move to tackle some of the most pressing challenges confronting young people in Abia State, the Abia State Ministry of Youth and Sports, in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, has announced the hosting of a Youth Stakeholders Town Hall Meeting.

The event is scheduled for June 5, 2025, and will serve as a critical platform for abia youth leaders, organizations, government officials, and concerned stakeholders to engage in open dialogue and map out sustainable solutions to the multifaceted issues facing the state’s youth population.

Speaking during the post-Executive Council media briefing at Government House Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, said the meeting will specifically focus on the issues of youth unemployment, insecurity, drug abuse, social disconnection, and economic exclusion.

“This town hall is not a talk show. It is a deliberate intervention by the Otti-led administration to address deep-rooted problems affecting young people in our state and to ensure youth voices are central to policy decisions,” Prince Kanu emphasized.

The Commissioner highlighted that this forum would harness the energy, creativity, and insight of Abia’s vibrant youth while exploring practical frameworks for economic inclusion, security improvement, and development of entrepreneurial opportunities.

In addition to the town hall meeting announcement, the Commissioner revealed that the Abia contingent to the just concluded National Sports Festival recorded a commendable performance, winning a total of 70 medals — 12 Gold, 18 Silver, and 40 Bronze — placing the state at 11th position overall.

“This feat is a clear demonstration of the growing investment by the present administration in sports development, youth engagement, and talent nurturing,” he said.

The press briefing also featured the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Nwaobilor Nwadinma Ananaba, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, all of whom reiterated the government’s resolve to sustain youth-focused policies.

Prince Kanu concluded by emphasizing that citizens must embrace discipline, orderliness, and responsibility, especially in areas like road usage and civic behavior. He warned that impounded vehicles left unclaimed would be auctioned, citing safety concerns.

“The system will be very stringent moving forward. We must teach our people to respect the rule of law, drive responsibly, and prioritize public safety,” he said.

The upcoming Abia Youth Stakeholders Town Hall Meeting represents another clear sign that the Governor Alex Otti’s administration is not only interested in reforms, but is also building a foundation for lasting youth empowerment.
