The Spaniard’s remarks followed the Gunners’ 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday, which all but secured second spot for the 2024-25 season.

The only goal of the match came courtesy of Declan Rice in the second half, a result that halted the Magpies’ aspirations of overtaking Arsenal in second place.

Newcastle now sit third and will need to win their final match against Everton to guarantee their own Champions League spot.

The Gunners, meanwhile, only require a single point from their last league fixture against Southampton to confirm their position as runners-up for the third consecutive season.

What Arteta said

Addressing supporters after the game, Arteta acknowledged their disappointment at another trophy-less campaign but urged them to maintain their belief in the team’s progress and to approach the next season with optimism.

“We had a dream. It was to be here today or in a week’s time and bring the big trophies to you guys,” Arteta said in his post-match speech on the pitch.

“Unfortunately we haven’t been able to do it, for many circumstances, but make sure that chasing a dream doesn’t get blurry and you don’t see what these players, these staff and this football club are doing, and make sure that we chase the dream with positivity and enthusiasm towards next season.

“We have to start creating our own history here in this stadium. There is much more to come and we have to do it altogether. It’s not going to be easy but this group of players, I’m telling you, they have the hunger, they have the quality, they have the talent. And we’re going to make it happen.”

Arsenal won 11 of their 19 fixtures at the Emirates Stadium, playing out six draws and losing two.

What’s next for Arsenal?

Arsenal will play relegated Southampton in Sunday’s finale.
