Pastor Uche Ume demands a retraction and public apology from KAATalks host Kel Armstrong over defamatory videos. Read what triggered the legal battle.
The atmosphere is tense as Rev. Dr. Uche Ume, Senior Pastor of Power World Ministries International, has moved to defend his name and ministry following a barrage of controversial and allegedly defamatory remarks made against him by podcaster and social media personality, Kel Armstrong Amobi, known for hosting the KAATalks Podcast.
Rev. Ume, through his legal counsel, Barr. Maxwell Opara (PhD) of Maxwell Opara & Associates (Chibunna Chambers), Abuja, issued a strongly-worded legal notice dated April 10, 2025. The notice demands that Mr. Amobi retract all defamatory statements made in viral videos published on April 8 and 9, 2025, and issue a public apology within 48 hours.
The contentious remarks, which have ignited heated reactions across online platforms, include allegations that Rev. Ume orchestrates fake miracles, manipulates congregants—particularly vulnerable women and children—and has extorted money from poor residents in Ebonyi State, Aba, and beyond.
A snippet of Kel Armstrong’s controversial statements reads:
“There is nobody close to me that he hasn’t called, begging me to forgive him. But what he needs is to stop the staged miracles, false prophecies, and extortion.”
“You’ve been ruining people’s lives with your so-called nonsense miracles and fake prophecies in Ebonyi, Aba, and other places.”
The legal team representing Rev. Ume described the claims as “false, misleading, and malicious,” stating that they have inflicted serious damage to the pastor’s reputation and ministry.
Rev. Ume’s demands are clear and uncompromising:
Immediate takedown and retraction of all defamatory content across every digital platform.
A public apology acknowledging the falsehood and harm caused.
A published clarification admitting that the allegations were unfounded.
The legal letter warned that failure to comply with these demands within 48 hours would prompt swift legal action to protect Rev. Ume’s reputation.
Speaking on the issue, Rev. Ume said he remains focused on his divine mission and described the allegations as a deliberate attempt to smear his name and discredit his spiritual work.
“I will not be distracted. The truth will always triumph. This is a test of character, and I will come out stronger,” he declared.
The incident has sparked a larger conversation about the ethics of online commentary, accountability in religious leadership, and the growing influence of social media in shaping public perception.
