Chief Nwaka Ogbonna Inem’s traditional retirement (Ime Uche) event in Abiriba, Abia State, was a grand celebration of culture and unity. Governor Alex Otti, reggae gospel icon Buchi, and prominent dignitaries graced the occasion, making it a memorable event for Abians.

The serene town of Abiriba in Abia State came alive on December 28, 2024, as Chief Nwaka Ogbonna Inem, popularly known as “Enyi Oha,” celebrated his traditional retirement (Ime Uche) in grand style. The event, steeped in cultural significance, attracted an array of dignitaries, including Abia State Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and reggae gospel music legend Buchi.

 

The celebration commenced on December 27 with an evening of music, drinks, and sumptuous meals that lasted until the early hours of December 28. Renowned reggae gospel artist Buchi entertained guests with uplifting performances that set the tone for the main event.

 

The traditional retirement ceremony, held on December 28, began at 10 a.m. as Chief Nwaka received prominent Abians and members of the Abia State Executive Council. Notable attendees included the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, PhD; Honorable Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu; Honorable Commissioner for Power & Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday; Honorable Commissioner for Justice/Attorney-General, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna; and Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd).

The arrival of Governor Alex Otti heightened the event’s significance, alongside the presence of former Military Vice President Commodore Okoh Ebitu Ukiwe and his wife.

 

Speaking at the event, Chief Nwaka Ogbonna Inem expressed deep gratitude to Governor Otti for attending and to Ebitu Ukiwe, his uncle, for the support. He praised the unity within the governor’s cabinet, emphasizing that the solidarity of the executive council was evident in this attendance with all exco members attending and showing support. Chief Nwaka also pledged to dedicate his retirement to serving Abians through his role in the Otti-led administration.

 

In his remarks, Governor Otti commended the rich cultural heritage of Abiriba and thanked its people for their unwavering support during the last election. He announced plans to retrofit the Abiriba General Hospital, establish primary health centers, and execute several development projects in the community. The governor also noted that Chief Nwaka’s retirement would enable him to focus more on contributing to the state’s growth.

 

The event attracted prominent Abiriba sons and daughters, as well as other Abians, including legal luminary Kenneth Ahia, SAN. Guests enjoyed cultural displays, delicious local cuisine, and a vibrant atmosphere that celebrated Abiriba’s heritage.

 

Chief Nwaka Ogbonna Inem’s Ime Uche ceremony highlighted the enduring traditions of Abiriba while showcasing the unity and progressiveness of the Otti-led administration.
