The recent town hall meeting hosted by the Abia State Orientation Agency emphasized the importance of community engagement in promoting road safety and addressing substance abuse. Acting Director General Urena Abazie called for collective action to shape a brighter future for Abia State.
On October 8, 2024, the Abia State Orientation Agency (ABSOA) held a significant town hall meeting at the Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Hall. Acting Director General Urena Abazie welcomed distinguished guests and government functionaries, marking the occasion as an essential step toward a safer and more responsible Abia.
The town hall meeting, themed “Abia’s Future Begins with Safe Roads; Stop Substance Abuse and Street Trading,” aimed to engage various community segments, including vehicle owners, pedestrians, youth, and market traders. This initiative aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to infrastructural development and public safety across the state.
Abazie highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve Abia’s infrastructure, including the construction of long-neglected roads and the recent declaration of a state of emergency on waste management. He emphasized that while the government lays the groundwork for a better Abia, the community’s role in upholding good behaviors is equally crucial.
The ABSOA, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), is spearheading a campaign to educate citizens on adhering to road safety rules and the dangers of substance abuse. This initiative aims to eradicate social issues such as street trading and the use of broken-down vehicles that clutter the roads.
“The future of Abia lies in our hands,” Abazie stated, urging residents to actively participate in creating a more conducive environment for living and business. He expressed optimism that with community support, Abia can attract more investors and become a model state.
As discussions unfolded, attendees were encouraged to share ideas and strategies that could enhance the effectiveness of these programs, promoting a collective commitment to safeguarding the well-being of all Abians.
In conclusion, Abazie expressed hope for a fulfilling and productive meeting, underscoring the importance of each participant’s contribution to Abia’s future. “God bless Nigeria, God bless Abia State,” he affirmed, setting a tone of unity and determination.
