Corporal arrested years after ‘promoting’ himself to superintendent
A police corporal, Buba Adamu, has been causing unrest since he promoted himself to superintendent after being transferred from Cross River State Command to Kaduna State Police Command in 2015.
It was gathered that he refused to report at the Kaduna command and instead began using the uniform and rank of SP to carry out illegal activities in Calabar.
The Cross River police, Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, said the corporal has been operating as a “Mobile Police Officer” without reporting to a specific police command since 2015.
According to the spokesperson, operatives attached to the command arrested Adamu in Calabar and he has been in detention.
She said; “It is true that the said officer was transferred from Cross River to Kaduna State in 2015, and no one knew he didn’t report at his new station ever since.
“There are allegations that he has been carrying out criminal activities around Bacoco, Nassarawa area of Calabar. All these will be investigated with a view to prosecuting him.”
It was also learnt that Adamu has since been drawing his monthly salary, even though he never reported at his new station.
Concerned members of the Nassarawa community, a Hausa/Fulani settlement in Calabar tipped off the police about Adamu’s illegal activities in their neighbourhood.
